Akala and The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company have been gaining recognition both in terms of fans and also media attention for their project to get Shakespeare to teenagers who may not see his works as relevant to them; Kingsley ‘Akala’ Daley has even managed to get Lord of the Rings’ own Gandalf on board with his project. On a separate note, not too long ago Akala released his eagerly awaited third album The Thieves Banquet accompanied with its amazing cover art. The project took a slightly different course to his previous work in that the whole album was recorded with a live band (see the making of the album visuals here) and had musical influences from a range of genres. We thoroughly enjoyed the album and suggest you grab your copy either direct from Illa State Records or from iTunes. He’s now taking the whole thing on the road for a fourteen date UK wide tour stretching from Brighton to Glasgow. We’ve seen him live previously and had the pleasure of interviewing him and he puts on a great show of both new and old material, check out all the dates below starting 19th November and make sure you catch him in a town near you.
