Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) and Talib Kweli are reuniting on the same stage as the legendary Black Star. Formed in what has come to be known as the ‘golden age’ of rap of the 1990s, Black Star only released one album (Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star) but it is still one that defines the era. The album was released on the late Rawkus Records and much like the above rappers’ names, the label is a byword for the style of 1990s lyricism that many fans still look back on with a huge dose of nostalgia. The folks at SoundCrash have reunited the pair, who have both had solo successes following the release of their joint album, and will share the stage at The Forum in London. Alongside the mighty Black Star, hitting the stage will also be Beat Junkies founder J-Rocc. As a founding member of the greatest turntablist crew in the world as well as Madlib’s DJ at his live shows you know The Funky President won’t disappoint and we found this out for ourselves at Outlook Festival 2013. With a fantastic variety of genres and sounds, J-Rocc is guaranteed to get you moving your feet. Lastly, DJ Mr Thing will also hit the stage. Our favourite music nerd (seriously, he’s like an encyclopedia) is a former member of the Scratch Perverts and a regular on the The Funhouse TV. This show is definitely one live event you want to attend and it looks like many fans think the same as early bird tickets have all sold out over two months in advance. Make sure you grab your tickets here before they sell out.
