Nas – The Season (produced by J Dilla)

Nas The SeasonThe last few weeks all the talk has been about Run The Jewels who just dropped their second album on Mass Appeal Records, a record label that came into existence because of Mr. Nasir ‘Nas‘ Jones. During a screening of The Warriors and a Q&A session with El-P and Killer Mike in Brooklyn this week, Nas made a surprise appearance and revealed a new song produced by the late J Dilla. The Season (download it below) features Nas over the classic Gobstopper instrumental by J Dilla. The laid back, trumpet-laden beat has been previously rapped over by Big Pooh on his Rapper’s Delight record a few years back and now it’s Nas’ turn and the veteran makes it sound easy they way he effortlessly spits over it.

Who told you’ve I lost it? I just put it down for a second. Damn, can the king lounge for a second? kick his hooves up? Grow stubble on the face for once without a smooth cut? Grow a little gut?” – Nas on The Season.

Nas also takes the opportunity to dismiss any rumours that have been floating around since the release of his untitled 2008 album that implied that Jay Electronica and Stic.man ghost wrote the album with him. A rumour that has been denied by both. Let us know what you think.

Da-da-da-da-da, Da-da-da-da-da….
